4" Quilt Hanging Sleeve

I have worked on attaching several hanging sleeves today. I also had several customers asking me how to construct a sleeve. It is actually very easy. I took pictures today, and I hope this will help:

Cut a 9" strip lengthwise of your (preferably) backing  fabric, measuring the width of your quilt. If you have to cut the strips width wise, piece them together until they measure the width of the quilt. If you don't have enough backing fabric left, any fabric that compliments the quilt will work.

Fold in 1/4" twice at each end to form a small seam. Press. Sew.

Fold the strip in half, WRONG sides together, sew with 1/4" seam allowance.

Press the tube, so the seam is in the center, press the seam open.

Pin the tube/sleeve to the top  of your quilt back, about 7/8" from the top.

Whip stitch the sleeve to the quilt, make sure the stitches are not visible on the front of the quilt.

Sew down the side of the sleeve (about 3")

Carefully fold the sleeve up about 1" from the bottom. Pin. Whip stitch the bottom of the sleeve to your quilt.

Finish the other side.
Voila! Your sleeve is firmly attached, and will have a nice fold to accommodate the hanging bar.
