My Grandfather's First Shoemaker's Workshop (Schuhmacher Werkstatt)
He quickly moved his workshop into the new house he had built. Right on Main Street, with a Shoe Store. As the story goes, if my Dad and Grandpa would keep busy repairing shoes, and Grandma would sell one pair of shoes a day they would be able to support the two families. My Mom was still working as a tailor and design, sew and alter garments. I remember that my Dad had to be a model for the wedding veils. Soon Mom would tend to the store, and Grandma's job was to teach me sewing, knitting, crocheting and anything else she could think of. I remember her making her own hats. Maybe I can dig up some pictures!
